Make a recycled egg box bug - simple how to guide.

Watch the video on how to make a recycled egg box bug!

Here at Surrey Heritage we look after old books, newspapers and letters like this one signed by Queen Elizabeth I. We keep everything safe in our store.

We have to be careful to look after our collections and make sure no bugs get into our store.

Bugs like the silverfish like to eat the paper and glue that books are made from.
If a book has bugs in it we wrap the book in clingfilm and freeze it at -32 degrees celsius for 3 days.

This kills any bugs and their eggs. After 3 days we slowly defrost the book back to room temperature and package it up for safe keeping.

We discover, preserve and celebrate Surrey’s history through our collections of historic letters, photos, maps and newspapers.
